A big thank-you to all who helped with the Fable Fairy stall at the "I, You and Everyone we know market" today. It was hot in so many ways. I will post pics on Mon. It is the BEST feeling having people like and buy things made with one's own hands. Thanks Lala (making), S&R (setting up), Nicola (selling) and La (packing up). It's so good to have friends and relations (as Rabbit in Winnie the Pooh calls it) help the creative cause.

A highlight (after selling my fable fairy stuff ) was being told my l'il blog had been seen.

For the Love of Blog: Vote for the SA Blog Awards

The Blog awards celebrate all that is brave and free about blogs in South Africa. These guys and gals have plugged away at their keyboards distilling their filtered slice of cake to captivate us at our desks and our coffees, despite our manically busy or glazed over slothyesque (and every category in between) lives  . These people have not only lived it, but photographed it for us too. And then re-sized the photos on photo bucket (design blogs) or posted badly captured sliced life pics that make us laugh anyway. They have put themselves out there for us to judge or love, remember or discard like flyers. Sometimes they make a lunch-time read during a revolting day at the office feel like an “out of Africa” flyover the Magaliesberg mountains or a terrible-toddler day seem breezy next to a blog about waking at least 6 times a night for a sick baby. They tell you about the sale of the century, capture sartorial-esque street style or a glimpse of life as a foreigner in China. Sometimes they are laugh out loud funny. And let’s face it, there aint heaps of money in blogging. Sure it’s driving a bit of traffic their way and they can place adverts on their blogs, but mainly they’re doing it for the love of blog. People: apathy is a weapon of mass destruction. We’re in an era where the magnificent Hayibo blog closed. Sure it’s a bit of admin to register on the awards site in order to stop voting blocks and keep it fair, but let’s do it for the love of blog. Lets keep the Bloggers going. I heart the vintage floral styles of the momento BUT the gourgeous florals at "wardrobe" on kloof street in cape town are not going to cut it on my post- two- babies bod. I hanker after dresses that are made for REAL fifties bodies. High waist can go a bit wrong otherwize. yes i know your aunt's friend looks fab after 2 kids etc etc , but not all of us do OK?

Vintage Street Giveaway

Saturday the 4th Sep was an exciting day not only for the South Peninsula ladies, but for vintage lovers everywhere. (Ladies and gentleman) introducing Ms Daisy Jones and Vintage Street in Kalk Bay. Grab yourself something yummy on your way past the Olympia Bakery shop, go up Lock road and stop where Clairvoux crosses Lock. Then step on board - for it is quite a trip. Daisy has an excellent eye and has carefully curated vintage finds into potential dreamy scenarios. Think "Sunday in Paris" or "Groupie on Tour".

Not only is the shop's design inspired - go see the gates for yourself - but there are finds that one hears about, but so rarely gets one's lovely hands on. I saw Paul Smith jeans fly off the rails for R250. And Kenneth Cole red wedge heels disappear for less.

But, its not just the stock. Daisy is brilliant at sizing up your body shape and working out what will really suit you. I saw her do magic. Think Trinny and Susanna, but without the mirror shot in your undies. And no shaming you into "listening or else". You say: "I'm looking for a dress for a matric dance/ 21st/ wedding/ christening/ baby shower/ 40th. I want Grace Kelly for 2010", and Bob's your uncle, or in this case, Daisy's your Trinny, and you're standing there marveling at the effect. And did I mention the shoes?

Just for a taste of  Daisy, for my 40th birthday pressie, Daisy (who in a previous life was a farking funny journalist and illustrator) combined her drawing, humor and know-how into delightful sketches.

It's the combination of quick wit, keen eye, rare label stock and AFFORDABLE that make Vintage Street a delightful experience.

We are having people for supper on Wed. so the girls and I did a practice session taping the plates. We are doing a lacey vintage theme. The candlesticks and table cloth are vintage from my granny Suze who fled Nazi Germany with some treasured possesions. You will some of her precious things on this blog.
