My extraordinary grandmother Suze

This is a picture of my grandmother, Suze, pre 1930s, pre World War 2 and Nazi Germany before she had to flee and lost her entire family and started life anew in South Africa. In the picture, she is on a holiday in Europe. I never saw a picture of her again so free n easy. I am so lucky I have a few photos of her that she took with her when fleeing so that I can remember her joie de vivre.

Man, did she and her friends have fun on the boat, writing letters home/ in diaries; sitting in arm chairs, sleeping in the open air.

This looks like a picture of her with her beau (before she met my grandfather). So stylish. Love the gingham jersey and the shoes.

I love sewing with all her things, like a little bit of her style is rubbing off on me x.

  1. Beautiful pics! I love sentimental old photos! I have the most beautiful photos of my grandfather when he was in the Army in Portugal, perhaps i should do a post on that too! But I have no idea how to scan in old photos ;-(

  2. Oh Cookie Jar now I am so wanting to see them. If you don't have a scanner at work, can you you take them to a copy and scan shop? Man I wish you lived in Cape Town :)

  5. YOu are certainly lucky to have these pictures, and it really does go to show how fragile the things we take for granted in life are. Thanks for sharing.
